Kendell Kawa attended Mason Gross School of Art, Rutgers University in New Jersey. In 1989 she earned her BFA in Graphic Design. After Graduation, she worked in Atlanta, Georgia as Art Director for Impact Communications where she was able to use her drawing and design skills to create ads that were in such publications as Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. Upon moving back to her native town of Brick, NJ, Kendell free-lanced in the design field for 9 years with several long-term corporate clients. However, within the past few years, her true passions gravitated towards Fine Art for its more personal voice. Not too long ago, after sitting in on a pastel workshop with Ed Hicks, she discovered and fell in love with the medium of pastel.
Kendell Kawa currently resides on the beautiful Jersey Shore. In 2011, she was inducted into the Audubon Artists, a national art society of great distinction, residing at the infamous Salmagundi Club in New York City. Kendell is a past member of the Pastel Society of New Jersey, past secretary and newsletter editor of the Laurelton Art Society and past trustee of the Ocean County Artists’ Guild in Island Heights, NJ. Kendell has taught pastel classes at Colorest Art Supplies in Red Bank and now offers private art classes to both adults and children in her home studio.
